The church of St. Alphonsus and Columba was built in 1856. Unfortunately, because it is exposed to the wind and rain on Killiney Hill, it is suffering from a serious water-ingress problem. The East wall is saturated with water and the roof timber is rotting. The issues have been there from the beginning and have been patched up over the last century and a half. But this time, it needs to be restored correctly if the roof isn’t to fall in. Our beautiful Stations of the Cross have already fallen down because of the rainwater in the walls. Nevertheless the church is still fully operational every day of the week and needed by our busy parish.
